Stillwater

Why did I choose Stillwater for my new business? As a tribute to my Dad's legacy.

Starting a new business is a journey full of excitement, uncertainty, and reflection. When I launched my own venture, I knew I wanted to honor a piece of my past—something that would remind me of where I came from, and the values that shaped me. For that, I chose to include the name Stillwater, the same name my dad used when he started his own business in his 50s.

My dad wasn't someone to shy away from challenges. In his 50s, he made the bold decision to leave the stability of his career and pursue starting his own business. His choice wasn’t just about finding financial success; it was about living life on his own terms and creating something that had meaning. He named his business Stillwater Clam Company, a tribute to the town where he was born and raised. To me, Stillwater was also a symbol of calm, steady perseverance in the face of adversity.

When I started planning my own business, I wanted a name that would not only represent my vision but also connect to the roots of where I came from. Stillwater felt like the perfect choice. It wasn’t just a tribute to my father’s legacy; it was a constant reminder to stay focused on what matters, and to embrace the calm in the storm.

There’s something timeless about the name Stillwater.  It carries a sense of tranquility and purpose. It’s not about rushing to achieve success—it’s about patience and clarity. My dad’s business journey taught me that true growth doesn’t happen overnight, but through steady, thoughtful actions. It’s a lesson I carry with me every day as I build my own path forward.

By choosing Stillwater for my own business, I’m not just honoring his memory—I’m embracing the values he instilled in me: resilience, focus, and a deep commitment to doing things right, no matter how long it takes.

Starting a business in your 50s, like my dad did, or even later in life, can be daunting. But his example showed me that it’s never too late to follow your passions and create something lasting. The name Stillwater has become a symbol not just of my father’s journey, but of my own commitment to creating something meaningful.

In choosing this name, I carry forward his legacy with pride, reminding myself every day that success isn’t measured by speed or volume, but by how steady and focused you remain when faced with challenges. Just as Stillwater reflects the calm surface of the water, it represents the depth that lies beneath—enduring, stable, and resilient.

As I embark on this exciting new chapter in my business, I can’t help but feel a sense of gratitude for the lessons my dad taught me.
